Originally a 1956 ranch house, this residence has been brilliantly reimagined with a modern second-floor addition. A narrow, thirty-foot long skylight mediates between the original pitched roof and the volume of the new addition where it rises to the second floor, bringing light and geometric clarity to the spaces. Inspired by the canyon's abundant oaks and eucalyptus trees, the distinctive roof shape creates a treehouse-like experience, allowing occupants to feel as though they live among the trees.

Materials & Design

This connection to nature extends to the materials themselves, with sustainably harvested Western Red Cedar cladding running continuously from the ceiling of the family room up through the skylight and around the exterior walls of the second story. The kitchen is truly the heart of the home. Warm white oak custom cabinetry adds two islands with waterfall Caesarstone countertops, maximizing seating and serving options when entertaining. In the living room, the fireplace was refinished with slate gray Venetian plaster, adding a sophisticated focal point to the space.
